INDIA GREENS PARTY
Press Statement
Onchar, Pauri-Garhwal, Uttarakhand, 21 September 2020: The India Greens Party (IGP) has emphasised the need for creating Peace Day everyday and living in harmony with each other in order to make the world ecologically sound and sustainable.
On the occasion of the International Day of Peace or Peace Day today, the IGP President Suresh Nautiyal appealed to the world governments to put down their weapons and reaffirm their commitment to living in harmony with one another.
“To achieve this, global action is urgently needed and we have to create Peace Day every day,” pointed out Mr Nautiyal.
The International Day of Peace is observed around the world on 21 September. Established in 1981 by unanimous United Nations resolution, Peace Day provides a globally shared date for all humanity to commit to Peace above all differences and to contribute to building a Culture of Peace. This year is particularly significant because it is the 20th anniversary of the UN Resolution on the Programme of Action on a Culture of Peace.
Mr Nautiyal said the theme of the Peace Day this year — Shaping Peace Together – is quite appropriate and there is a need to celebrate the Peace Day by spreading compassion, kindness and hope in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.
He pointed out that Climate Action for Peace was urgently called for in view of the global climate emergency.
Mr Nautiyal said it is also important to eliminate discrimination and hatred in order to create Peace every day.
