INDIA GREENS PARTY

Press Release on New Roles in the Party

Issued on 30 May 2023 at iGP NHO at Greendham Anandi-Chait, Unchir-Dunktok, Pauri Garhwal, Uttarakhand.

The move of the India Greens Party (iGP) to achieve more and more inclusiveness within the organisation is continuing. As a part of this, the party has elected Ms Harpreet Kaur, a member of a marginalised community of Punjab, as its new Co-President. Another Co-President, Rajendra Minj, comes from a minority Adivasi community of the state of Chhattisgarh. He also holds the Convenership of the Indigenous, Tribal & Adivasi Peoples Network of the party. With this, the top roles in the party organisation go to the members of the marginalised communities.

In its last online PAC (Political Affairs Committee) meeting on 28 May, the party elected Ms Harpreet Kaur in the new role. Till date, Ms Harpreet Kaur was one of the General Secretaries of the party. Also, she is Con-Convener of the PAC, and a member in the party’s Women’s Network. She is a strong voice for gender equity and for the marginalised communities in the country.

The PAC also elected one of its Vice-Presidents, Rusi Burjor Nariman, a member of the Parsee community in Mumbai, in the PAC.

In a press release issued here today at the national head office (NHO), the party said Advocate Shelley Vishwajeet has been given the role of a Vice-President in the iGP. The Executive Board of the party made this decision in its meeting today, and included him in the PAC as well.

Mr Jiten Singh Konthoujam from northeastern Manipur state has been elected as a General Secretary and included in the PAC. Also, he holds the role of Convener for the north-eastern part of the country.

One of the two Secretary-Generals is a woman, Archana Patel-Nandi from Mumbai. In fact, several roles in the organisation are held by women. For example, party’s International Secretary is also a woman, Ishpriya Kaur.

Ms Madhubanti Sen is the new Convener of the iGP Women’s Network.

Mr Adil Rather is the Convener for the Young Greens of the party.

In November 2023, the party will elect its new National Executive Committee.

The party reiterated that its efforts to make the party more and more inclusive and representative were continuing. The India Greens Party is the only political organisation in the country which is committed to give at least 50 percent roles to the women in the organisation. It makes all out efforts to bring women in the organisation.

The party is representative of the most communities in the country, and does not believe in the discrimination based on caste, creed, gender, sexual orientation, language, ethnicity, geographical location, economic status, education, etc.

Issued by the iGP Chief Spokesperson Suresh Nautiyal.
