Earth Day: Restoring Earth’s ecosystems is vital, says iGP

INDIA GREENS PARTY

Press Statement

Unchir-Dunktok, Pauri Garhwal, Uttarakhand, 22 April 2022: The India Greens Party (iGP) today said restoring Earth’s damaged ecosystems is the most important investment we can ever make to ensure humanity and all life on Earth will not only survive but also thrive.

In a press statement issued on the occasion of the Earth Day today at its national head office (NHO) here, the iGP Co-Presidents Ms Nazeema AK and Mr Rajendra Minj emphasised on placing the planet over profit. Earth Day provides an opportunity to raise global public awareness of the challenges to the well-being of the planet and all the life it supports. The Day also recognises a collective responsibility to promote harmony with nature and the Earth, to achieve a just balance among the economic, social, and environmental needs of the present and future generations of humanity.

“Climate change caused by human meddling with nature has disrupted the ecosystems that support all life on Earth. This Earth Day is celebrated within the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration and we must dedicate ourselves to restoring the damaged ecosystems to combat climate change, stop mass extinctions, and eradicate poverty,” urged the iGP Co-Presidents.

The iGP Chief Spokesperson Mr Prabhath Prabhakaran said the Gaia Theory formulated by the scientist James Lovelock, which sees Earth as a self-regulating living superorganism, is relevant now, as we face climate collapse. “If humanity does not adopt lifestyles that respect the planetary web of life, the Gaian planetary organism might treat the human species as a disease-causing agent, resulting in our extinction. So, we must live in harmony with nature and Earth for our survival itself,” he asserted.

“Time is running out. We must take proactive action to preserve and protect our planet. Everyone is accountable including businesses, governments and citizens,” Mr Suresh Nautiyal, Founder, Patron and Mentor of India Greens Party pointed out. “Only a green future can be a secured future,” he said, adding that a healthy ecosystem will help in protecting humans from several diseases.
