Press Release

Unchir-Dunktok, Pauri Garhwal, Uttarakhand, 5 January 2022: The India Greens Party (iGP) today appealed to the National Capital Region Planning Board of the Ministry of the Housing & Urban Affairs, and the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forests to act in the interest of the citizens and the wildlife and strengthen the NCR Draft Regional Plan-2041.

The iGP, in a petition sent to the concerned officials through an email today, objected to the dilution of the Natural Conservation Zone provisions in the ‘NCR Draft Regional Plan-2041’ and suggested to the NCR Planning Board, Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs to protect the Aravalli Hills and other natural ecosystems.

In the petition, Mr Rajendra Minz, Co-President of the India Greens Party, said the new ‘Draft Regional Plan 2041’ for the National Capital Region, if implemented, will open the Aravallis in Haryana for real estate and also threaten them in Delhi and Rajasthan.

The iGP leader said it is regrettable that the Draft Regional Plan 2041 has deleted the zoning protection for the Aravallis that is present in the Current Regional Plan 2021 by replacing the provision of ‘Natural Conservation Zone’ with ‘Natural Zone’.  The word ‘Aravallis’ has been deleted from the Draft Regional Plan 2041, and under this new draft they will not have the protection of the ‘Natural Conservation Zone’ which does not allow construction for real estate in the Aravallis.

Mr Minz said 70-80% of the current ‘Natural Conservation Zone’ which includes large portions of the Aravallis and other natural ecosystems would not qualify to be included under the ‘Natural Zone’ in the new Draft Regional Plan-2041.

“We hope that the NCR Planning Board of the Ministry of the Housing & Urban Affairs, and the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forests will take note of the objections raised by the India Greens Party, and act in the interest of the citizens and the wildlife and strengthen the NCR Draft Regional Plan-2041 based on the party’s suggestions,” pointed out the Co-President of the India Greens Party.
