Press Statement

Unchir-Dunktok, Pauri Garhwal, Uttarakhand, 18 December 2021: The India Greens Party (iGP) today said the International Migrants Day is a day to appreciate the migrants and the communities they join.

The iGP, on the occasion of the International Migrants Day today, said a global collective action can mitigate the difficulties of migration, which has been an audacious expression, throughout the human history, of individual’s will to overcome adversity and to live a better life.

The IGP leader said it is a day set aside by the United Nations to recognise the estimated 272 million migrants that are integral members of all our societies today.  “We learn together, create together, work together, sing, dance and play together. We live together. That is the meaning of International Migrants Day, and its message. Also, there is a great need to respect the rights and dignity of all migrants,” he added.

This is the enduring, continuing reality of migration that has shaped humanity on this planet for millennia. Migrants go forth in search of safety or opportunity or a chance to reinvent themselves through education. They seek lives free from prejudice and discrimination. The societies that welcome them evolve for the better — becoming ever-changing communities open to the future we cannot escape, and that we resist at our peril.

Mr Nautiyal said migration, throughout human history, has been a courageous expression of the individual’s will to overcome adversity and to live a better life.

Today, globalisation, together with advances in communications and transportation, has greatly increased the number of people, who have the desire and the capacity to move to other places.

The IGP hopes that migration is well-managed and handled with dignity for all. We see what comes from the syntheses borne by new arrivals adapting to traditions in their new communities. We see those communities flourishing as locals welcome the new into their midst.

“We salute them and we support them, and pledge to make the future we believe is arriving for all of us,” said the IGP President Suresh Nautiyal.

Issued by Chief Spokesperson, iGP.
