New Delhi, November 20, 2018: The India Greens Party, pan-India Green party, in its two-day National Convention on 17-18 November 2018 in New Delhi, has elected senior journalist Suresh Nautiyal as its National President and rights activist and film-maker Raza Haider as its Secretary-General.
According to a press release issued here on Tuesday, the National Assembly, during the Convention, also elected Ms Anubhuti Chauhan and Ms Richa Singh as General Secretaries.
Besides, it elected party’s Political Affairs Committee (PAC) and the National Executive. The PAC includes: (1) Suresh Nautiyal (Chair, Delhi/Uttarakhand), (2) Raza Haider (UP), (3) Prashant Tandon (UP), (4) Anil Chamadia (Bihar), (5) Ronald VS David (Karnataka), (6) Michael Anand Rajchandra (Kerala), (7) Ms Alpyu Singh (Chandigarh), (8) Ms Kiran Arya (Uttarakahnd), (9) Ms Divya Gaur (Madhya Pradesh), (10) Prof Lalit Sarin (Delhi), (11) Raman Tyagi (UP), (12) Lucas Tirky (Chhattisgarh), (13) Ms Richa Singh (UP), (14) Humpreet Singh (Punjab), (15) Ms Usha Bakshi (Haryana), (16) Bhanu Pratap Singh (Delhi), and (17) Chirag Bansal (Delhi).
The National Executive includes: (1) Suresh Nautiyal, (2) Raza Haider, (3) Prashant Tandon, (4) Anil Chamadia, (5) Ronand VS David, (6) Michael Anand Rajchandra, (7) Ms Alpyu Singh, (8) Ms Kiran Arya, (9) Ms Divya Gaur, (10) Prof Lalit Sarin, (11) Raman Tyagi, (12) Lucas Tirky, (13) Ms Richa Singh, (14) Humpreet Singh, (15) Ms Usha Bakshi, (16) Bhanu Pratap Singh, and (17) Ms Prakriti Nautiyal, (18) Bhupen Singh, (19) Ms Anubhuti Chauhan, (20) Agraj Pratap Singh, (21) Dr Dharmendra Kumar, (21) Basant Rawat, (22) Anurag David, (23) Vinod Nautiyal, (24) Ms Dolly Kumari, (23) Rafat Jamal, (24) Govind Singh Sijwali, (25) Amar Prakash, (26) Ms Rehana Siddiqui Jamal, (27) Ms Koushik Chatterjee, and (28) Atul Chaudhary.
Other main features of the National Convention and General Assembly were: Adoption of party Constitution, its Preamble, Core Principles, Policies, Resolutions and 3-year Action Plan, which include launching a campaign against the Pancheshwar Dam on the Indo-Nepal border, pressurising the central government to search the buried 5-kg active uranium in the Nandadevi area in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand which might cause serious health hazard for millions of people living on the Ganga banks, and nuclear energy. The demands in the Action Plan also include: phase out of the non-ecological and unethical ballot system, right to recall, participatory and grassroots democracy, gender and religion neutrality, casteless society, inculcation of scientific viewpoint, preservation and promotion of indigenous wisdom, right to shelter, right to healthcare, right to education, promotion of world peace and peaceful coexistence, communicating with the neighbouring countries through people’s representatives, referendum on major issues, proportional representation of the community view, policy intervention and advocacy for sustainable development, strategic alliances with like-minded organisations and people, adoption of local to global approach, creating people’s manifesto before next general election, campaign on the water scarcity issue, bringing farmers’ and food security perspectives to the main political discourse, etc.
While the party reiterated its commitment to the six Core Principles of the Global Greens Charter which are ecological wisdom, sustainability, social justice, participatory democracy, non-violence and respect for diversity in its Plenary Session; speakers like Socialist thinker Vijay Pratap, CPI-ML leader Purushottam Sharma, All India Peoples Forum leader Girija Pathak, editor and rights activist Anil Chamadia and mediaperson Prashant Tandon expressed disappointment that most of the existing political parties in the country were hardly doing anything to address vital environmental and ecological issues. The party is taking shape to respond to these challenges and engage the people for direct and participatory democracy in the country.
More than 200 party delegates and other people including Green activists, leaders of other political streams journalists, lawyers and members from the intelligentsia took part in the National Convention.
The National Convention also saw a modern dance performance on ecological issues by the Tanva Dance Ensemble, a play on the Clean Environment by the Sambhawana Natya Manch, poster exhibition of art work on the themes of ecology and environment displaying works of Rocio Perez del Solar, Uday Shankar Ganguly and Asit Bagchi. Books on environment, ecology and human rights were also displayed. Besides, Anuragi and Poojan Sahil enthralled the audience with their music and songs that were apt comments on the polluted environment and corrupt political system.
The seeds of India Greens Party were sown in a meeting on 2nd of July 2017 in New Delhi as there has been an urgent need for a Green party in the era of globalisation, intensive infrastructure development, marketisation and climate change.
The party also thanked those who made the National Convention happen including Ms Anita Nautiyal and Vinod Nautiyal. It also thanked Australian Greens and African Green Federation for their moral support.
