INDIA GREENS PARTY
Press Statement
Unchir-Dunktok, Pauri Garhwal, Uttarakhand, 2 August 2021: The India Greens Party (iGP) today requested the media companies operating in India to protect jobs of their employees including journalists.
In a press statement issued here by the iGP President Suresh Nautiyal on the media situation in the country, he said it is regrettable that there are rampant job losses in newspapers, news agencies, media houses, etc.
He said it is a matter of concern that big media organisations like The Hindu have resorted to the mass-scale retrenchments.
“The situation in some of the established national news agencies is deplorable with a heavy backlog of salary arrears to be paid to journalists and co-workers.
The iGP President said it is regrettable that the attacks on press freedom are continuing even in the hard times of Corona pandemic.
“The journalists on field duty are being targeted in particular,” Mr Nautiyal pointed out.
The Green leader said the mounting cases of sedition on journalists, writers, artists, trade unionists, farmers and even well-known social workers only reflected the bad condition of democracy in the country.
Mr Nautiyal said the party also has taken note of the fact of the Pegasus, Snoopgate issue and its ramifications for the country, and targeting of journalists.
The iGP President said the changing of press accreditation rules and curbs on Parliament coverage and abolition of veterans’ category of journalists among other checks were not in the interest of democracy in the country.
–Issued by Deepak Dabral, iGP Office Secretary.
