World Migratory Bird Day: IGP says ecological security of birds is vital
Unchir, Pauri-Garhwal, Uttarakhand, 10 October 2020: The India Greens Party (IGP) today said the ecological security of the birds is vital for our existence as they play a key role in keeping Nature healthy and remain a source of cultural pride for communities across the world.
In a press statement issued on the occasion of the World Migratory Bird Day today, the IGP President Suresh Nautiyal said the migratory birds travel hundreds and thousands of miles in search of ecological security. In an interconnected world, they play a vital role in keeping nature healthy, through pollination and pest regulation, and remain a source of cultural pride for communities across the world.
The migratory birds play an important role in helping us gauge the health of our ecosystems as well.
With this year’s theme ‘Birds Connect Our World’ the IGP feels that migratory bird conservation can only be achieved if efforts are united worldwide.
Mr Nautiyal said the global pandemic COVID-19 has revealed how interconnected and fragile all life on this planet is. “Therefore, the better we manage Nature, the better we will manage human health,” the IGP leader pointed out, adding that there is an urgent need to continue to raise awareness about the threats the migratory birds face.
Mr Nautiyal said it is a sad story that there is decline in the migratory birds in several parts of India and the world. To repair this loss, there is an urgent need to restore our wetlands which are of significant natural value not only for the country in which they are located, but for humanity as a whole.
The IGP leader said cooperation at the international levels is vital to the continued survival of the migratory birds.
“The migratory birds connect our world and make it a better place for all of us,” he stated, adding that the migratory birds ignore the artificial borders while humans fence their gardens, construct nation-states and draw socio-political boundaries.
“In a nutshell, we need to connect people to work collaboratively along flyways to safeguard and restore the bird population,” the IGP President concluded.
