Int’l Mother’s Day: iGP for putting in place laws & policies to support mothers in leadership

Unchir-Dunktok, Pauri Garhwal, Uttarakhand, 9 May 2021: Celebrating the mothers of the world on the occasion of the International Mother’s Day today, the India Greens Party (iGP) said mothers are selfless, shower unconditional love on their children, and sacrifice all their needs for their families.

This special day is celebrated every year on the second Sunday of May. This year it is being celebrated today, i.e. 9 May 2021.

In a press statement, the iGP President Suresh Nautiyal said the International Mother’s Day is celebrated around the world as a day to honour mothers, and motherly bonds within the family.

“On this Day, let us know that mothers of the world want and deserve an equal future free from stigma, stereotypes and violence. They want a future which is sustainable, peaceful, with equal rights and opportunities for all,” Mr Nautiyal pointed out.

The iGP leader said mothers are also at the forefront of the battle against Covid-19, as front-line and health sector workers, as scientists, doctors and caregivers.

Mr Nautiyal said we see positive results when mothers lead, therefore, we need mothers’ representation that reflects all women and girls in all their diversity and abilities, and across all cultural, social, economic and political situations.

“Let all mothers have an equal right to speak. This is how we will ensure that decisions are inclusive and reflect the needs of the entire population. We need to remember that gender equality is essentially a question of power. Therefore, we must transform social norms. We must put in place laws and policies to support mothers/women in leadership,” the Green leader summarised.
