PRESS STATEMENT
New Delhi, 25 February 2020: The India Greens Party (IGP) condemns the ongoing communal violence in Delhi in the strongest terms and demands immediate arrest of the perpetrators.
The IGP President Suresh Nautiyal in a statement here said today that it was most unfortunate that the Union Home Ministry controlled Delhi Police was facilitating the Hindutva fundamental forces and goons to target the minorities.
Mr Nautiyal said it is regrettable that the central government was not doing anything tangible in this regard despite several lives having been lost and dozens of people injured in the riots. He said the homes, shops and livelihoods have also been damaged or destroyed due to inaction on part of the government agencies.
He said the communal and sectarian leaders are being allowed to deliver hate speeches against the minorities.
The IGP President demanded that an immature and irresponsible leader like BJP’s Kapil Mishra must be put behind the bars as he was instrumental in instigating and orchestrating this pogrom. He said all other leaders involved in the hate speeches should also be arrested.
Mr Nautiyal said it was most regrettable that all this was shamelessly perpetrated by the fundamentalist Hindutva forces when a foreign guest was in the country.
“The party appeals to all peace-loving people to raise their voice against the state-sponsored and BJP-led communal violence in the capital,” the IGP statement added.
The party statement said the communal violence was unnecessary because the movement against the discriminatory CAA, NRC and NPR was absolutely peaceful and those taking part in it foiled all efforts to defame the movement. It is to be noted that the peaceful and democratic movement – popularly known as Shaheen Bagh Movement — against these discriminatory provisions has been going on in several parts of India for almost three months now. “It is sad that it is being coloured as sectarian and anti-national movement despite a Supreme Court’s judge statement that peaceful dissent was not anti-national,” the IGP President pointed out.
