Calls Out Security Lapses and Urges Accountability from Modi Government

The India Greens Party (IGP) expresses its deepest sorrow and strongest condemnation of the heinous terrorist attack that took place in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, targeting innocent tourists.

This brutal act of violence has not only shattered the peace of the region but has also deeply wounded the spirit of hospitality and harmony that Kashmiris hold dear.

We stand in solidarity with the victims and their families in this time of grief and extend our heartfelt condolences to those who lost their loved ones. We also pray for a swift recovery to the injured.

The India Greens Party commends the local Kashmiri citizens who rushed to help the injured, offered shelter, and stood shoulder to shoulder with the victims, displaying courage, compassion, and a strong rejection of terror.

The widespread condemnation of this attack and the spontaneous protests by residents against terrorism highlight the will of the people of Jammu and Kashmir to live in peace and stand united against violence in any form.

However, the attack also reveals deeply troubling lapses in governance and security. The absence of adequate army or paramilitary presence at a location teeming with thousands of tourists raises serious questions. Despite prior warnings — including a clear travel advisory from the United States government almost one month prior (reported by Times of India on March 11, 2025) — the Modi government failed to initiate any effective preventive measures or strengthen security protocols in one of the country’s most sensitive regions.

This failure to act is not merely an administrative oversight; but prima facie appears to be it is a grave dereliction of duty. The India Greens Party demands a full, independent inquiry into the security failures and lapses, if any, and urge the Government of India and the state government to prioritise safety of tourists in Jammu and Kashmir.

Terrorism has no place in any society, and those responsible must be brought to justice swiftly. But justice also demands that those in positions of power be held accountable for preventable lapses.

It is only through truth, justice, and unity amongst citizens of India that lasting peace can be achieved.
