Int’l Mother’s Day: Mothers deserve equal future free from violence

Press Statement

Unchir-Dunktok, Pauri Garhwal, Uttarakhand, 8 May 2022: Celebrating the mothers of the world on the occasion of the International Mother’s Day today, the India Greens Party (iGP) said mothers of the world want and deserve an equal future free from stigma, stereotypes, and violence.

This special day is celebrated every year on the second Sunday of May. This year it is being celebrated today, 8 May.

In a press statement issued here at the national head office (NHO) of the party, the iGP Co-Presidents Ms Nazeema AK and Mr Rajendra Minj said the International Mother’s Day is celebrated around the world as a day to honour mothers, and motherly bonds within the family.

“Mothers are selfless, shower unconditional love on their children, and sacrifice all their needs for their families. They want a future which is sustainable, peaceful, with equal rights and opportunities for all,” the iGP Chief Spokesperson Mr Prabhath Prabhakaran, said.

Party’s Founder, Patron and Mentor Mr Suresh Nautiyal, said we see positive results when mothers lead, therefore, we need mothers’ representation that reflects all women and girls in all their diversity and abilities, and across all cultural, social, economic, and political situations.

“Let all mothers have an equal right to speak. This is how we will ensure that decisions are inclusive and reflect the needs of the entire population. We need to remember that gender equality is essentially a question of power. So, we must transform social norms. We must put in place laws and policies to support mothers/women in leadership,” the Green leaders summarised.

Issued by the iGP Chief Spokesperson Prabhath Prabhakaran.
