Int’l Human Solidarity Day: Survival depends on human solidarity, says IGP
Unchir, Pauri-Garhwal, Uttarakhand, 20 December 2020: Celebrating the International Human Solidarity Day today, the India Greens Party (IGP) said the human survival depended on the human solidarity.
In a press statement issued on the occasion, the IGP President Suresh Nautiyal said the COVID-19 pandemic has taught us that solidarity was about humanity and it was the very source of human survival.
“This is why the UN General Assembly, on 22 December 2005, identified solidarity as one of the fundamental and universal values that underline relations between peoples,” said Mr Nautiyal.
The objective of the day is to eradicate poverty and promote human and social development in developing countries, in particular among the poorest segments of their populations.
According to the United Nations, the International Human Solidarity Day — is a day to celebrate our unity in diversity; a day to remind governments to respect their commitments to international agreements; a day to raise public awareness of the importance of solidarity; a day to encourage debate on the ways to promote solidarity for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals including poverty eradication; and, a day of action to encourage new initiatives for poverty eradication.
Mr Nautiyal said this year Solidarity Day is of immense importance to confront the crises and challenges faced by people globally among the COVID-19 pandemic. Human solidarity is the basis for lasting stability and peace.
