ON ASSEMBLY ELECTIONS IN HIMACHAL PRADESH AND GUJARAT

INDIA GREENS PARTY

Press Statement: 20 December 2017

New Delhi, 20 December 2017: The INDIA GREENS PARTY – pan-India Green party – said today that the results of the Assembly elections in Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat have not disappointed the people at large as it was quite indicative that the citizens of the country were already looking for a political change and shift in all paradigms.

In a Press Statement here in New Delhi, Mr Suresh Nautiyal, National Convener of the INDIA GREENS PARTY, said: “Even as the issue related to the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) remains in the political consciousness of the concerned voters of the country, the underlining of the results of the Assembly elections in the Himalayan state of Himachal Pradesh and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home state Gujarat provides a ray of hope – hope in the sense that the country is in a mode of paradigm shift and the citizens have already begun the spade work to change the political climate in the country.”

He pointed out that the destination of real Democracy was too far but the journey has begun. In fact, the Gujarat win is a moral defeat for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as it did not get convincing victories even after the PM Modi, several chief ministers, dozens of central and provincial ministers and several hundreds of thousands of the party workers ferociously campaigning for the BJP candidates. The Gujarat victories are actually a moral defeat for the BJP as the emotive issues could not take the party very far. “The Gujarat win has only enabled the BJP leaders to hide some of their grave misdeeds,” Mr Nautiyal added.

“The results have shown that the people actually want to change the Politics of Prevalence. This gives great hope to the Green Politics in near future which will address the people’s issues through the principles of ecological wisdom, sustainability, social justice, non-violence, participatory democracy and respect for diversity,” Mr Nautiyal added.

The IG National Spokesperson, Ms Alpyu Singh, said the election in Gujarat has provided to us an opportunity to have young leaders like Jignesh Mewani, who have a lot to offer for now. She said the margin of the BJP win was so small and on several seats it was less than 1000 votes.

“The results from the rural pockets have shown that there was agrarian distress and the farmers were looking for solutions to the agricultural crises,” she said, adding that the BJP wins were nothing but a victory for the politics of sloganeering.
