IGPWN to hold more Gender Equity Workshops in near future
New Delhi, 12 November 2020: After the successful Gender Equity Workshop this month, the Women’s Network of the India Greens Party (IGP) has decided to hold such workshops in the near future.
In a press release issued here today, Ms Mahima Bhardwaj, Convener of the IGP Women’s Network, said the women’s body of the party will keep organising Gender Equity Workshops in the future as these help in training the existing women members of the party on gender equity issues and in increasing the members of the party.
She said such workshops also help in creating the units of the IGP Women’s Network in other states of the country.
Ms Bhardwaj said the first face-to-face Gender Equity Workshop was organised on 3 & 4 November 2019. The success of that workshop had inspired us to hold more workshops.
“Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we were not able to hold a scheduled workshop on Gender Equity issues in the state of Chhattisgarh. However, we were able to hold the second national Gender Equity Workshop online on 1st and 8th of November this year.” Ms Bhardwaj pointed out.
The Gender Equity Workshop in two parts on 1st and 8th of November was mainly moderated by Ms Anita Nautiyal, Vice-President of the IGP and APGFWN Gender Equity Project Coordinator.
According to the IGPWN Convener, several topics like – (a) What is the difference between equality and equity, (b) Green Politics as a priority in your daily life and how Gender Equity relates to this, (c) What is Green Politics and why we need women in politics, (d) India Greens Party and women’s policies, (e) Dealing with negatives, (f) Skill development, (g) Global Greens and APGFWN, and (h) Next steps of IGPWN (state networks) and introduction to developing a roadmap, etc – were discussed in the two-part workshop.
The speakers on the above-mentioned topics included two international and five national speakers. They were: Ms Michelle Sheather (International Development Committee, Australian Greens), Ms Jenny Mulkearns (Australian Greens), Ms Anita Nautiyal (IGP Vice-President, Interim Lead APGF Representative on Global Greens, and APGFWN Gender Equity Project Coordinator), Ms Rehana Siddiqui (IGP Secretary-General), Ms Ishpriya Kaur (India Young Greens Convener), Ms Mansee Bal Bhargava (IGP Spokesperson, and Ms Mahima Bhardwaj (IGPWN Convener).
Ms Bhardwaj said the workshop was able to make the IGP women members aware of the gender issues.
“The workshop made the participant women understand what the difference was between gender equality and equity — meaning how to move to fairness from sameness,” the IGPWN Convener pointed out.
She said several women have enrolled themselves as the IGP members after the workshop. “We will be able to create units of the IGP Women Networks in several states. It is a wonderful feeling to have some really talented new women in the party,” concluded the IGPWN Convener Mahima Bhardwaj.
