Mahima Bhardwaj elected as IGP Councillor on APGF Council

Unchir, Pauri-Garhwal, Uttarakhand, 11 October 2020: Convener of the IGP Women’s Network, Ms Mahima Bhardwaj, was today elected as India Greens Party’s Councillor on the Asia Pacific Greens Federation (APGF) for next one year.

In a press release issued here today, the India Greens Party (IGP) said that the Political Affairs Committee (PAC) of the party in its last meeting had proposed Ms Bhardwaj’s name for the position and the APGF Council in its annual general meeting today elected her on the Council.

Representatives of other Green parties of the Asia Pacific region were also elected as Councillors on the APGF Council.

The APGF is Federation of all Green parties in the Asia Pacific region.

Earlier, Mr Michael Rajchandra was the IGP Representative on the APGF Council. He voluntarily stepped down to hand over the position to a woman leader.

The IGP President Suresh Nautiyal said Mr Michael Rajchandra has set an example for the Green leaders in the country and showed a path to those who are still lacking in the implementation of gender equity in their respective parties.

“The noble act of stepping down from an important position is undoubtedly exemplary and a benchmark. In the true spirit of Green Politics, Mr Rajchandra has set this example,” Mr Nautiyal pointed out, adding that the move has also improved gender balance in the APGF Council.
