Only negotiated peace will bring lasting solution, says iGP

INDIA GREENS PARTY

Press Statement

Issued at iGP NHO, Greendham, Garhwal, UK-246194 on 9 May 2025

In the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror incident, a conflict-like situation has erupted between India and Pakistan.

In this context, the India Greens Party (iGP) would like to emphasise that it always stands for negotiations, peace and nonviolence, and believes that the concerned parties should solve the issue through dialogue, diplomacy and peaceful negotiations.

The party is against conflict or war or terrorism in any circumstances because its disadvantages are numerous and severe, adversely impacting individuals, animals, communities, nations and the natural ecosystems.  At the same time, it also believes that the perpetrators of the heinous crime like in Pahalgam have to be brought to justice.

The party has great regards for the armed forces for taking care of the citizens and the borders of the country; however, it thinks that the government ought to take into cognisance all the pros and cons of a conflict-like situation, and utilise the armed forces in the best interests of the country.

The party is of the view that the conflicts and wars never ever bring lasting solutions, and the costs are devastating and collateral. In a war, mostly the most vulnerable viz. animals, poor and middle class suffer and die, while corporations, rich and powerful benefit.

In a conflict or war, there is a widespread loss of life — among both soldiers and civilians, causes sufferings — physical injuries and disabilities, psychological harm to civilians and soldiers, destruction of infrastructure and resources, economic instability, disruption of social and political order, and a great loss to environment, ecology and biodiversity.

A war also leads to the long-term consequences like displacement, poverty, and the spread of misinformation. The costs of war, including military spending and reconstruction efforts, can cripple economies and lead to increased debt and poverty. A war can also destabilise societies, weaken governments, and lead to the rise of authoritarian regimes.

Pakistan government should stop supporting terrorism that is killing innocent civilians in India. In fact, they should deal with it in larger interest of peace and stability of the region, as it is the enemy of any civilised society in the world.

As far as suspension of the Indus Water Treaty is concerned, the iGP hopes that this will not result into actual stoppage of water; as not only humans, but millions of other innocent animal and plant species are dependent on it for survival, especially during the current harsh summer season.
