INDIA GREENS PARTY EXPRESSES CONCERN OVER DEATHS DUE TO CORONA VIRUS

Rishikesh (UK), 17 March 2020: The India Greens Party (IGP) has expressed its concern over death of hundreds of people the world over due to novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) infection.

The party President Suresh Nautiyal, in a press statement in Rishikesh, said that it was good that the Indian government brought home its citizens from a few countries but in totality, it has failed in checking effectively the spread of the hazardous virus in the country.

He said it is important to know who is responsible for spreading the virus.

The IGP President called upon the people to stay aware of the latest information on the COVID-19 outbreak available on the WHO website and through national and local public health authorities as there is no vaccine to prevent novel Coronavirus disease.

The virus spreads mainly from person-to-person — between people who are in close contact with one another (within about 6 feet) and through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes. If you develop fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical advice promptly as this may be due to a respiratory infection or other serious condition.

Mr. Nautiyal has advised the people to take care of health and protect others by doing the following:

  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces daily like tables, doorknobs, light switches, countertops, handles, desks, phones, keyboards, toilets, faucets, and sinks,
    etc.
  • Regularly and thoroughly clean hands with an alcohol-based hand rub or with soap and water as it will kill the virus. If soap and water are not readily available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60 percent alcohol. Cover all surfaces of your hands and rub them together until they feel dry.
  • Maintain at least three feet distance between yourself and anyone who is coughing or sneezing.
  • Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth as hands, once contaminated, can transfer the virus to eyes, nose or mouth.
  • Practice respiratory hygiene and make sure you, and the people around you, follow good respiratory hygiene. This means covering your mouth and nose with your bent elbow or tissue when you cough or sneeze. Then dispose of the used tissue immediately. By following good respiratory hygiene you protect the people around you from viruses such as cold, flu and COVID-19.
  • Stay home if you feel unwell. If you have a fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical attention. Follow the directions of your local health authorities as they will have the most up to date information on the situation.
  • Stay informed on the latest developments about COVID-19. Follow the advice given by your healthcare provider, your national and local public health authority or your employer on how to protect yourself and others from COVID-19.
  • Stay at home if you begin to feel unwell, even with mild symptoms such as headache and a slight runny nose, until you recover.
  • Avoid contact with others and visits to medical facilities will allow these facilities to operate more effectively and help protect you and others from possible COVID-19 and other viruses.
  • Wear a facemask when you are around other people.
  • You do not need to wear a facemask unless you are caring for someone who is sick.
